Frequently asked questions
Te Tari Puna Ora o Aotearoa/NZ Childcare Association offers a Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) degree programme.
Q - Why a degree?
A - NZCA supports professional status for ECE teachers and a degree has been the traditional entry point to professions. It is the logical ‘next step' for ECE teachers in New Zealand.
Q - How long will it take to complete?
A - It is a three-year degree programme. The degree is taught face-to-face, with some elements via our e-learning platform.
Q - Will the NZCA diplomas still be recognised qualifications in the future?
A - Yes. NZCA's Diploma of Teaching (ECE) and National Diploma in Teaching (ECE, Pasifika) are well respected level seven qualifications recognised by the Ministry of Education.
Q - Is the degree equivalent to a level seven qualification?
A - Yes. As with all degree-level qualifications, our Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) programme is level seven.
Q - The NZCA diplomas have a strong bicultural focus, will you offer a Māori teaching degree?
A - NZCA's degree retains and strengthens the bicultural aspects of all our education programmes. We have a strong tikanga Māori aspect to the degree.
Q - How much will it cost?
A - We have ensured that the degree is as affordable as possible and it is highly competitive with all other degree providers. You can access our fee schedule here. With classes only one day per week, students find studying with us ideal for maintaining an income via part-time employment.
Q - How difficult will it be to get into the degree programme?
A - While the degree has rigorous entry criteria for those under 20 years of age, there is still provision for discretionary entrance if a number of criteria are met. Our entry requirements make the degree programme accessible to most students.
