Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education)


NZCA Diploma students 

The Diploma of Teaching is no longer open for applications.

We are teaching the Diploma of Teaching (ECE) at our 15 teaching bases. All new students with NZCA will be undertaking our Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) programme. Diploma holders are eligible to apply for our degree upgrade programme.

The diploma programme

  • Three years in length, comprising stages 1, 2 and 3
  • 12 modules with each module taught in a ten week term
  • Centre-based
  • Bicultural and based on Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Involves ongoing assessment, written and in-practice 
  • Approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the New Zealand Teachers Council and leads to teacher registration (Qualification code: PCEE03)

Centre based learning

The centre base model allows you to use theory and research to shape your teaching practice. You can be a volunteer or employed at a centre while you study.

 

Course requirements

Course requirements include:

  • Weekly tutorials (6.5 hours per week = 1 day)
  • Self-directed study (recommended 8.5 hours per week)
  • Supervised teaching experience in the centre (15 hours per week minimum)
  • Practicum in other early childhood settings, one per year
  • Attend a minimum of 80% of tutorial sessions, carry out written assignments and complete set tasks.
