Our National Diploma in Teaching (ECE, Pasifika) (PDF 643 kb) allows you to learn, teach and qualify at the same time.
The programme
- Is three years long, comprising Stages 1, 2 and 3
- Has 12 modules with each module taught in a ten week term
- Is centre based
- Is Pasifika focused
- Is bicultural and based on Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Involves on going assessment, written and in practice
- Is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the New Zealand Teachers Council and leads to teacher registration. (Qualification code ND0983)
- Places available at our Otahuhu and Waitakere teaching bases
Centre based learning
The centre based model allows you to use theory and research to shape your teaching practice. You can be a volunteer or employed at a centre while you study. You will need to be working in centres where there is a minimum of three Pasifika families.
Course requirements
Course requirements include:
Weekly tutorials (10 hours per week = 1.5 days)
- Self directed study and assessment work (recommended 6.5 hours per week)
- Supervised teaching experience in the centre (15 hours per week minimum)
- Practicums in other early childhood settings, one per stage
- Attend a minimum of 80% of tutorial sessions, carry out written assignments and research and complete set tasks.
Teaching bases
The programme is currently offered at our following teaching bases:
- Waitakere
- Otahuhu
- Christchurch.
The National Diploma in Teaching (ECE, Pasifika) may be offered in other regions over time.
